Joining a professional membership scheme is an opportunity to network and receive support to polish skills and measure performance

CILT members celebrating their achievements at CILT’s Annual Awards for Excellence
For a professional in almost any walk of life, the benefits of membership and qualification in the organisation which represents his or hers chosen discipline are self-evident.
In the UK the leading professional body for those involved in transport, logistics and supply chain management is the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Its 20,000 members consist of managers and academics with specialist skills and experience, ranging through from students to lifetime professionals. CILT has now made a corporate membership facility available to the sector.
The institute provides education, training, mentoring and guidance, designed to result in individual professional qualifications demonstrating the skills and management qualities accrued from a combination of academic study and operational experience across the total transport modal range – road, rail, sea and air.
In addition to services targeted at progressing individual career development, CILT constitutes a forum for debate and exchange of views and ideas, either via its website and other modes of communication, or face-to-face networking opportunities at more than 350 meetings and events held across the country throughout the year. Following a recent reorganisation, 40 professional sector-specific forums now allow members to debate and network with peers.
CILT also provides an increasing number and range of practical management schemes offering information, research assistance, data and intelligence.
The CILT Knowledge Centre, and its unique, world-renowned library, contains access to more than 37,000 references – including all of the leading specialist publications, trade journals, research papers and industry reports. Databases cover business intelligence, supply chain insight, legal compliance and an up-to-the-minute news desk. Members benefit from the knowledge and experience of the dedicated staff to provide transport professionals with personal and expert guidance and advice.
Logmark is the leading logistics and supply chain benchmarking club, enabling operators to measure their performance against others in the same or similar sectors. The scheme identifies best practice and business improvements by comparing “best in class” organisations and exploring opportunities for self-improvement. CarbonActive is a pioneering tool enabling organisations to accurately measure, monitor and manage their carbon footprint, highlighting where improvements can be made.
In order to make these services more widely available to the industry, CILT has created a corporate membership package. A range of self-created and tailored packages allow designated personnel from a corporate member to access CILT facilities.
Five packages enable the corporate member to select the services that they need, and allow the member to designate the number of personnel involved to utilise these services, ranging from two in the bronze category, to twelve in the Platinum+ group. However, specific schemes can be created to suit any individual organisation’s needs.
Corporate membership of CILT is a practical and rewarding operational service facility, and is the public indication of an organisation that is dedicated to the highest professional standards. Join the professionals!
