By making sustainable packaging for e-commerce and the industrial supply chain, Ranpak is doing well by doing good.

Ranpak is a leading global provider of environmentally friendly protective packaging solutions, and its systems play an increasingly important role in an ever more complex and interconnected economy. Ranpak serves a broad array of industries, including e-commerce, food and beverage, healthcare, automotive, machinery and consumer goods.

As a part of the critical logistics infrastructure, even in the most challenging of times Ranpak provides customers across the globe with the environmentally friendly protective packaging materials they rely on to ship their products. Over 30,000 end-users across more than 50 countries use Ranpak solutions. These include large and small companies, global and local businesses, well-established enterprises and new start-ups. Whether they ship small appliances, medical supplies, bottles of detergent or wine, industrial pumps, or crystal glassware, Ranpak’s protective solutions ensure the goods of global commerce get to where they need to be, without dents, abrasions or breakage. Absent effective protective packaging, supply chains would suffer disruption and businesses and consumers would incur significant losses.

The explosion of e-commerce and the globalisation of industrial supply chains has made the protection of goods for shipping an essential function of the 21st century economy. Ranpak is fully committed to ensuring that every business is aware of the merits of using paper in their supply chains and automating their operations to be more efficient. Ranpak has a full suite of solutions that can be used to cushion and brace heavy items, fill voids to reduce movement in packages, wrap fragile items, and keep items cold during shipping. In addition to its paper offerings, Ranpak offers sophisticated automation equipment for box customisation, robotic pad insertion and exact measurement of voids within boxes, for the use of high-volume customers. Once businesses have switched to Ranpak, they often find their operations have become more efficient, damage rates have been reduced thanks to the protective qualities of paper, and their customers have an enhanced unboxing experience.

Ranpak’s systems use paper to protect goods for shipment, not plastics or foam. Ranpak’s paper packaging is renewable, biodegradable and curbside recyclable and offers effective alternatives to the millions of tons of plastic packaging produced on an annual basis. Historically, secondary packaging has been dominated by plastics and other petrochemical-based substrates, but that protection comes with an immense environmental cost. Plastic’s biggest asset – its durability – is its biggest downfall, a material often used only once and for a short period of time, but lasting hundreds of years. Reducing plastic consumption is increasingly coming into focus for consumers, regulators and employees of businesses, and driving behavioral changes at home as well as within supply chains.

Ranpak’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the protective packaging products it sells, and includes its operations. Ranpak uses recycled paper wherever possible and recycles the vast majority of its waste stream. All mills from which Ranpak purchases paper are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit that promotes responsible management of forests, and the majority of supplier mills in North America are certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), a North American non-profit that sets standards for responsible forestry. Ranpak also seeks to minimise its reliance on fossil fuel energy and build high-quality packaging systems that last. In short, Ranpak is focused on doing its part to take better care of the planet, and to deliver a better world.
