Building national cyber-security resilience

6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
The House of Lords, Westminister, London

How can the UK’s central government strengthen the nation’s cyber-readiness and prepare for future information security emergencies?

The UK government is implementing digitalisation programmes across all departments to improve how they perform. With this digitalisation comes new and enhanced threats to government data and the operation of government IT systems.

However, a January 2025 report from the Cabinet Office concluded that the UK’s public sector is ill-equipped when it comes to having the level of cyber-resilience needed to deal with ever-changing cyber-threats. And yet, cyber-attacks are acknowledged to be one of the most serious threats to the UK.

Cyber-resilience measures the ability of an organisation to recover rapidly from adverse security events while maintaining the delivery of its key services. But the government’s cyber-defences are not always fit for purpose: they don’t have the people and tools to tackle this problem on their own. In addition, scarce resources are often diverted to the protection of outdated legacy systems, adding even greater tension to already stressed systems.

It is only by investing in technology and creating new partnerships that the government will be able to keep pace with the rapidly changing cyber-threat landscape.

Join us to network with your peers and gain practical insights into strategies for building cyber-resilience in central government. This is an exclusive event and seat numbers are very limited, so apply for your place now.

The topics we will explore

During the meeting, we will focus on questions such as:

  • Why are cyber-threats to central government increasing? Which need to be prioritised? How can these be identified?
  • What are the gaps in central government capability? How can cyber-readiness be measured?
  • How does the government build greater resilience, given existing skills shortages and the squeeze on investment?
  • What are the benefits of building new partnerships with vendor organisations? How can partnerships help to overcome skills shortages and investment constraints?
  • What issues surrounding people and organisational culture will need to be addressed as new techniques for strengthening resilience are implemented?
