Going beyond AI – the importance of data governance

6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
The House of Lords, Westminister, London

Why strong data governance is an essential part of business success

High quality data management is essential for business and for the efficiency of most business processes, particularly as AI tools start entering mainstream business use. It is why we will be discussing how data can be best deployed for business benefit with top executives at a dinner at the House of Lords on April 24th, sponsored by SoftServe and Google Cloud.

Ensuring data is of sufficient quality is a huge challenge for organisations, as the sheer volume of it companies generate makes quality control a huge challenge. Leadership struggles to access critical data, making decision-making difficult, if not impossible.

These are all issues highlighted in research commissioned by SoftServe info.softserveinc.com/the-great-data-divide  which showed that 58% of the 750 business leaders polled saw strategic business decisions being made based on inaccurate or inconsistent data.

A further problem is having to comply with a rigorous regulatory data management framework, while many leaders doubt that anyone has a full understanding of all the data they collect — or knows how to access it.

Our research showed that 78% of VPs and 61% of directors believe investment priorities are negatively impacted by leaders not fully understanding how data can generate value.

It all points to a need for more strategic clarity which we hope the evening’s debate will shed light on, given that a lack of governance can lead to decisions based on gut feel, instead of with strong data-driven evidence.

How will business leaders overcome this distrust? The debate will go to the heart of this issue and explore how businesses can get their data houses in order and why it is not just data used in AI systems that must be maintained at the highest quality.

Join us to network with your peers and gain practical insights into the importance of robust data governance. This is an exclusive event and seat numbers are very limited, so apply for your place now.

The questions we will explore

During the meeting we will focus on topics such as:

  • What are the problems that can occur with data? Why is poor quality data such an issue for businesses?
  • What is data governance, why is it important for success, and how does it impact business processes and culture?
  • How should organisations use data to make decisions? Should data lead decisions or support them?
  • Is the experience and knowledge that people have more or less important than data? When making decisions, how should experience be balanced against a process of just “following the data”?
  • Does the use of AI in a business change the rules for data governance? For example, does AI mean that new parameters for the responsible and ethical use of data need to be established?
  • What skills are needed to support the democratisation and decentralisation of data governance? How can a culture of good data governance be built across an organisation?
